The Perfect Nuremberg Weekend Itinerary

Nuremberg is the only German city I´ve ever romanticized for its beauty.  A cultural hub that attracts tourists for both its history and art, Nuremberg is definitely the shiny ruby in a country so grey and depressing. I spent two weekends in Nuremberg, but the average tourist only needs perhaps a long weekend. For 2 to 3 days, here is a compact Nuremberg itinerary.

Socks with sandals lifestyle

See Nazi Stuff

Two main attractions that reflect Germany´s horrid past include the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds and the Nuremberg Trials Memorial. Get these two out of the way so you can party guilt-free later.

Documentation Center Nazi Rallying Grounds

Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds.

The largest Nazi rallies were held in Nuremberg, attracting over one million people from 1933 to 1938. Visitors are able to visit both the indoor exhibition and the outdoor grounds.

Nuremberg Trials Memorial

Nuremberg Trials Memorial.

From November 1945 to October 1946, the Nuremberg Palace of Justice held numerous trials that forced the Nazis to face the consequences of their actions. The museum details the crimes committed during World War 2 as well as its impact the succeeding years.

Walk Around the Old Town

Me, walking around the city center.

A city surrounded by walls, the Old Town somewhat sustained itself during the destruction of World War 2. Picturesque views of classical buildings harboring the Regnitz river aligned among cozy cafes and shamrock trees almost made me forget I was in Germany. And of course, you´ll find your collection of churches and cathedrals.

Frauenkirche church.

Climb to the Nuremberg Castle

The Nuremberg Castle.

For a beautiful skyline view of Nuremberg (if the weather permits), head your way up from the Old Town to see one of Germany´s most lasting buildings, the Nuremberg Castle. Bring real shoes because the hike is quite steep.

Shitty weather as usual.

”Stumble” Upon the Red Light District

I’m so cringe

On the outskirts of the city walls is one of Europe’s many Red Light Districts. I didn´t realize it was the Red Light District until one of the women cheered me on as I took selfies. I wanted to return at night, but hearing the bro laughs of obnoxious men cheating on their significant others would trigger me back to 2019. Remember, no photos.

Do a (Solo) Pub Crawl

Germany, for me, is one of those countries that is super hard to make friends in when coming as a tourist, and the few hostels in Nuremberg don´t host group activities. Instead of sitting in my dorm room depressed and alone, I went to these cool bars.

Original Bar

Original Bar.

They played fire musicc– old and new school hip hop, Dua Lipa, and everyone´s top 40 faves. This was my favorite dance bar of the weekend.

Brown Sugar

Brown Sugar.

Honestly, everyone here was old and there were no cute guys, but I actually like rock music, so I had a great time. Getting drunk to Arctic Monkeys and ignoring everyone is my preferred way to spend a Saturday night.

Die Rote Bar

Wonder if they fucked

I liked the groovy, alien vibe. It was a young crowd of tourists and locals.

Bela Lugosi

Satan Saves

I brought my 45-year-old Tinder date to this metal bar to freak him out a bit and gauge his level of crazy, but he was completely appalled. I thought the people were friendly and I loved the edgy decor.

Some more Nuremberg photos (before I delete them forever)

If I ever find myself in the Bavarian region again, I´d no doubt return to Nuremberg for another weekend.
